The first half was played at a fast, but neither side managed to find the net. Ramsgate came closest when Liam Quinn’s header was superbly kept out by Gagliardi in the Godalming goal. The Gs felt aggrieved after Shaun Elliott was tripped in the penalty area but referee Ryan Ellis waved away the appeals.
Graeme Purdy had a great chance to put the Gs ahead early in the second half, but Rams ‘keeper Conor Quinn was quick to smother the ball. Godalming took the lead 71 minutes in, when Victor Kiri’s pass found Shaun Elliott bombing down the left wing, who smashed the ball in from a tight angle. Martini brought off Shittu and replaced him with Dayo Junaid, and the youngster made an instant impact when he guided home Graeme Purdy’s cross to put the Gs 2-0 up with only 6 minutes left to play. Daniel Morris sealed the victory in the 89th minute when his close range shot beat the Rams ‘keeper.
Godalming will now face Metropolitan Police in the next round (1st Qualifying) at Wey Court, on Saturday 11th September.

Godalming snatched an last minute equaliser to force a replay against Ramsgate on Satuday. With Marcus Bettinelli unavailable, the Gs started with Roberto Gagliardi La Gala in goal, and have him to thank for a number of crucial saves. In a scrappy first half, Ramsgate had the better chances, with Roberto being the busier of the two ‘keepers. Ramsgate came closest when Aaron Beech head a rebounded shot onto the bar.
Ramsgate took the lead in the 55th minute after Ollie Gray was fouled by Shaun Elliot in the box, and Mitchell Sherwood converted the resulting penalty. Godalming Town Youth visited Bedfont Sports for their opening Southern Youth League fixture of the 2010/11 season on Wednesday night. The Gs competed well in appalling conditions which saw many local matches postponed or abandoned. However the hosts took the lead with half time approaching when Jordan Vidal chased a hopeful ball forward and beat Tom Webb in the Godalming goal from close range.
The rain got even worse in the second half and the scoreline did not improve when David Tomkins beat Webb with a low shot to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. The Gs did not let their heads drop though and played some good football in the last half hour of the match. Wade Foster’s pace was a constant menace to the Bedfont defence whilst Ryan Fraser and substitute Phil Maynard caused the hosts plenty of problems.
This was an encouraging display from Adam Roots’ young side and bodes well for the future. Godalming’s next fixture is away to Guildford City on Wednesday 1 September.
