The game was due to kick off at 10am in Thames Ditton but on arrival there was a distinct lack of players from the opposition. When their manager appeared I was told the match would have to be abandoned due to fact Claygate only had 7 players. I ask why we were not told earlier before leaving at 8.30 am in the morning!
The girls were up for a game after moving into second place last week in the Surrey County Girls and Woman's League last week. After speaking to league officials we will be awarded all 3 points but not until a disciplinary panel sits. If this is the case with top team Epsom only drawing we will have moved within 3 points of them and still have them to play this season. I always believed we could win this league with a fit squad which has not happened but the players who have turned out for me so far are a credit to themselves and Godalming Town. If we keep training hard and keep focused we may have something to be proud of at the end of the season.
I should also thank my coach Chris Lyons who has taken these girls to a new level and without his dedication I am not sure we would be were we are now. We still have 3 key players to return hopefully before the end of season which would be a great bonus. Winning titles is hard but the one thing you do need is a little luck - maybe today was that luck!
