After last weeks victory the test got bigger this week
with a very tricky away game at Claygate, last years
runners up in the league and currently top of the division. I asked the players to carry on the form of last
week and that is what we did and within 10 minutes we
were two goals up with goals from Mired Cheesmen and Emma Z.
With Godalming pressing for the rest of the half it
was inevitable more goals would come. Claygate to
their credit battled after half time but without any
real pressure and as the game progressed Godalming
took more control and with 5 minutes to go Louise
Skerry's fierce shot was blocked and the rebound fell
kindly to Godalming captain Candi Warwick who coolly
finished off the game. Star player Beth Nicholson
once again dominated defence giving Claygate strikers
no chance as one of the youngest players in the squad she
leads by example and has become one of the first names
on the team sheet. She has worked a good understanding
with her sister and rest of the team.
Sometimes you need to thrash some things out and that's what we did a couple weeks ago. We all said and took good positive criticism, this can help everybody in the long run. I knew I had the best set of players I have ever managed even in my days at Farncombe never was there a side who could live with this one but only if they played as a team. That's not a question any more. I still believe this league is wide open and we must look at this and win week in and week out and we will be there when prizes are issued.
